Brenbeal, a Boonwurrung and Woi wurrung word meaning ‘rainbow’.

Brenbeal is a Boonwurrung and Woi wurrung (Wurundjeri) word meaning ‘rainbow’. Brenbeal Children’s Centre provides a high quality child care and pre-school (kindergarten) service.

Brenbeal Childcare Centre is located on the lands of the Wurundjeri people from the Woi wurrung clan. The name was adopted in 1993 when the centre opened as a long day care centre with a sessional kindergarten.

In 2017 the centre with the endorsed by the Wurundjeri Land Council adopted the use of Wurundjeri words as  names for each of the Centre’s rooms: Wallert (Possum), Bunjil (Eagle), Bullen Bullen (Lyrebird) and Barriamal (Emu).

At Brenbeal we celebrate and embrace the rich fabric of many cultures with educators at our centre speaking Japanese, Cantonese, Chinese, Greek, Macedonian, Mandarin, Polish, Spanish, Telugu/Hindi, Tagalog and Vietnamese.
